Half Moon Lake is a small community, also known as a hamlet, located in Alberta, Canada. It is part of Strathcona County. This area is also called Half Moon Estates by Statistics Canada, which is like the country's official data collector.
The community sits right on the edge of a beautiful lake called Half Moon Lake. You can find it just north of Highway 629, about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of Sherwood Park. The hamlet began in the late 1950s when land around the lake was divided into plots for homes.

How Many People Live in Half Moon Lake?
Understanding how many people live in a place helps us learn about its community. In 2024, a local count called a municipal census showed that 206 people lived in Half Moon Lake. This was an increase of about 10.2% from the 187 people counted in 2022.
A larger count, the 2021 Census of Population by Statistics Canada (Canada's official data agency), reported 87 people living in Half Moon Lake. These people lived in 33 homes. What Does the Lake Look Like?
Half Moon Lake gets its name from its shape, which looks like a crescent moon! It is about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) long and about 250 meters (820 feet) wide. At its deepest point, the lake goes down about 8.5 meters (28 feet).
Fun at the Lake
Even though much of the land around the lake is private, visitors can still enjoy the water. At the south end of the lake, you'll find the Half Moon Lake Resort. This resort is open during the summer months. It offers campsites for staying overnight, a nice beach for swimming and relaxing, and a boat launch if you want to bring your own boat. It's a great spot for summer fun!
