Hobbits are a fictional people created by J. R. R. Tolkien for his Middle-earth stories. They are also known as halflings. You can find them in famous books like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Important characters like Bilbo Baggins and Frodo Baggins are hobbits. Hobbits have become very popular. They now appear in many other fantasy stories and games.

What Do Hobbits Look Like?
Hobbits look a lot like small humans. They are usually between two and four feet tall (60 to 120 centimeters). They have hair or fur on the tops of their feet. Their foot-soles are tough and leathery. Hobbits also have slightly pointed ears. They are often stout and have brown, curly hair. Male hobbits do not grow beards. Hobbits live longer than humans. Many of them can live to be 100 years old.
Hobbit Culture and Homes
Hobbits are a very peaceful people. They enjoy a simple life. Their way of living is like a time before big factories. They live in a special land they call The Shire. Some also live in Bree-land. A typical hobbit-house has a long hallway. Rooms are on both sides of this hallway. Their doors and windows are round. Originally, these homes were built underground in hills. These underground homes were called smials. But hobbits also use this unique architecture for houses built above ground.
