Halkirk is a small community called a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada. It is part of the County of Paintearth No. 18. Halkirk is about 122 kilometres (76 mi) east of Red Deer. You can find it where Highway 12 and Highway 855 meet.

History of Halkirk
Halkirk got its name from a place called Halkirk, which is in Scotland. It officially became a village on February 10, 1912. After a vote in October 2024, the Village of Halkirk changed its status. On January 1, 2025, it became a hamlet. This means it is now managed by the County of Paintearth No. 18.
Geography and Location
Halkirk is in an area with lots of open land, known as prairies. There are also farms and unique landforms called badlands nearby.
Population of Halkirk
In the 2021 Census, Halkirk had a population of 92 people. These people lived in 50 homes. This was a decrease from its population of 112 people in 2016. The land area of Halkirk is 0.61 km2 (0.24 sq mi). This means there were about 151.9 people living in each square kilometer in 2021.
Economy and Jobs
Halkirk is in a farming area. This means many different types of crops and farm products come from here. There are also several businesses near Halkirk that support industries. These include a mining operation and a power plant. There are also services for oilfields.
Wind Power in Halkirk
Since December 1, 2012, Capital Power Corporation has run a large wind farm near Halkirk. This wind farm has 83 Vestas V90 Wind Turbines. It can produce 150 megawatts of power. This made it Alberta's third-largest wind farm.
Education in Halkirk
Halkirk used to have a school called Mother Teresa Halkirk Catholic School. However, in March 2016, the school board decided to close it. This happened because the number of students attending the school had become too low.
