Hamid Samandarian (May 6, 1931 – July 12, 2012) was a very important Iranian artist. He was famous for directing both films and plays. He also worked as a translator, bringing many famous plays to Iran. Samandarian helped to shape modern Iranian theater.
He directed many well-known plays. These included No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre and The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. He also directed Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen.

Training Future Artists
Hamid Samandarian was also a dedicated teacher. He created many acting and directing classes. These workshops helped a lot of young artists learn their craft. He trained many actors and directors who later became famous in Iran.
Famous Students
Some of his well-known students include Ezzatolah Entezami and Reza Kianian. Other notable students were Golab Adineh, Mehdi Hashemi, and Shahab Hosseini. Danial Hakimi was also one of his students.
Directing Plays
Samandarian translated many plays into Persian. After translating them, he would often direct these plays himself. He brought works by famous writers like Bertolt Brecht and Anton Chekhov to the Iranian stage.
