Hamish Linklater (born July 7, 1976) is an American actor and writer. He is famous for his roles in TV shows and movies. You might know him as Matthew Kimble in The New Adventures of Old Christine. He also played Andrew Keanelly in The Crazy Ones and Clark Debussy in Legion. In 2021, he received great reviews for his role as Father Paul in the horror series Midnight Mass.

Early life and Family
Hamish Linklater was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. His mother, Kristin Linklater, was a theater professor. She taught actors how to use their voices. She also helped start a drama group called Shakespeare & Company.
Hamish grew up partly in the Berkshires. He started acting in small Shakespeare plays when he was only eight years old. His grandparents, Marjorie Linklater and Eric Linklater, were also involved in arts and writing. His uncles, Magnus Linklater and Andro Linklater, are writers too.
He finished high school in Boston in 1994. Later, he went to Amherst College.
Acting Career Highlights
Hamish Linklater began his acting career on stage. His first movie role was in Groove in 2000. After that, he played a reporter in the HBO film Live from Baghdad. He also appeared in the superhero movie Fantastic Four in 2005.
From 2006 to 2010, he was a main actor in the TV show The New Adventures of Old Christine. He played Matthew Kimble, the brother of Christine, who was played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Linklater also performed in many plays. In 2006, he was in The Busy World Is Hushed in New York City. He played the main character in Hamlet at theaters in California and Connecticut. In 2009, he acted in Twelfth Night in Shakespeare in the Park.
In 2011, he starred in the movie The Future. He also made his first appearance on Broadway in the play Seminar. He acted alongside famous actors like Alan Rickman and Lily Rabe.
In 2013, he played baseball player Ralph Branca in the movie 42. This film was about Jackie Robinson. He also joined the TV show The Newsroom for a few episodes. Later that year, he became a main cast member in the CBS series The Crazy Ones.
From 2017 to 2019, Linklater had a big role in the FX show Legion. This show is based on a Marvel Comics character. He also appeared in the third season of the crime drama Fargo.
In 2021, he starred as Father Paul Hill in the Netflix horror series Midnight Mass. His performance was highly praised by critics. In 2022, he played a villain in the western movie Dead for a Dollar.
Linklater also started working behind the scenes. In 2022, he began filming Downtown Owl. For this movie, he is the screenwriter, producer, and director.
Personal Life
Hamish Linklater was married to playwright Jessica Goldberg. They have one daughter together.
He is now in a relationship with actress Lily Rabe. They have three daughters.
