Hammerhead Lake is a beautiful lake located in the unorganized part of Kenora District in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. This means it's in a wild, undeveloped area. The lake is part of a huge system called the Hudson Bay drainage basin, and it's completely inside Woodland Caribou Provincial Park.

Where is Hammerhead Lake?

Hammerhead Lake is found in a remote part of Ontario, Canada. It's in the Kenora District, which is a large area in the northwestern part of the province. The lake is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) long and 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) wide. It sits at an elevation of 337 meters (1,106 feet) above sea level.

How Water Flows Through the Lake

Hammerhead Lake is like a stop on a long journey for water. Water flows into the lake from two main rivers:

The water then leaves Hammerhead Lake from its northern end, also through the Gammon River. This river continues its journey, eventually flowing into Donald Lake. From there, the water travels through the Bloodvein River, then into Lake Winnipeg, and finally through the Nelson River all the way to Hudson Bay. This entire path is part of the massive Hudson Bay drainage basin.

Part of a Provincial Park

One of the most interesting things about Hammerhead Lake is that it's located entirely within Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. Provincial parks are special protected areas in Ontario. They are created to:

  • Keep nature safe and healthy.
  • Protect different kinds of plants and animals.
  • Allow people to enjoy the wilderness in a responsible way.

Because it's in a park, Hammerhead Lake and its surroundings are kept wild and natural. This helps protect the environment and the wildlife that live there.
