Hampton is a village in Hamilton County, in the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. The population was 423 at the 2010 census.
Contents
History
In 1879, Joshua Cox founded Hampton and circulated a petition for the railroad to be built through the town. On June 19, 1891, Cox and his brother James Cox became the first stockmen to ship cattle from the United States to Liverpool, England.

2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 423 people, 176 households, and 130 families living in the village. The population density was 1,208.6 inhabitants per square mile (466.6/km2). There were 190 housing units at an average density of 542.9 per square mile (209.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.4% White, 0.9% Asian, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
There were 176 households, of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 26.1% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.82.
The median age in the village was 45.5 years. 22.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 19.1% were from 25 to 44; 32.6% were from 45 to 64; and 18.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 50.6% male and 49.4% female.
