The CDP includes the main town center and the developed areas around it. It is located in Rockingham County. In 2020, about 9,597 people lived in this part of Hampton. The whole town of Hampton has a larger population of 16,214 people.

This part of Hampton is in the middle of the town. It's built around where two main roads meet. These roads are U.S. Route 1 (also called Lafayette Road) and New Hampshire Route 27 (Exeter Road/High Street).

Hampton's Borders and Neighbors

To the north, Hampton CDP touches the town of North Hampton. To the southeast, it borders the Hampton Beach CDP. This is another special area within the town of Hampton.

The eastern edge of the CDP starts at Woodland Road. It then follows Nilus Brook and goes through Meadow Pond. The southern edge follows Tide Mill Creek. This creek goes through the Hampton Saltmarsh from Meadow Pond to New Hampshire Route 101. Route 101 forms the southwestern border of the CDP. The westernmost part of the CDP reaches Interstate 95.

Major Roads and Travel Times

U.S. Route 1 is an important road here. If you go north on Route 1, you can reach Portsmouth in about 10 miles (16 km). If you go south the same distance, you'll get to Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Route 27 goes east about 2 miles (3 km) to the Atlantic Ocean. If you go west on Route 27, you'll reach Exeter in about 7 miles (11 km).

Route 101, also known as the Exeter–Hampton Expressway, is easy to get to. You can find it from Exit 13 (NH 27) on the west side of the CDP. You can also get on it from US 1 on the southern side. Route 101 goes southeast about 2 miles (3 km) to the Atlantic Ocean at Hampton Beach. If you go west, it leads to Manchester in about 35 miles (56 km).

Interstate 95 is another major highway. You can get on it from Route 101 at the western edge of the CDP. Going north on I-95, you can reach Portland, Maine, in about 60 miles (97 km). Going south, it takes you to Boston, Massachusetts, in about 46 miles (74 km).
