Hancock is a small village located in Delaware County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 908 people lived there.
The village is in the western part of the larger town of Hancock. It sits where two important roads, Route 17 and Route 97, meet. Hancock is also special because it's where the East and West branches of the Delaware River come together.
For many years, railroads were very important to Hancock. The Erie Railroad arrived in 1848, helping the village grow. Even today, a railroad line still runs through Hancock, mostly carrying freight trains.
Exploring Hancock's Location
Hancock is found where the East and West branches of the Delaware River meet. It's right on the border with Pennsylvania. The village is about 43 miles (69 km) east of Binghamton. You can easily get there using New York State Route 17.
Many people think of Hancock as part of the Southern Tier region of New York. Others see it as part of the Catskills region. Since it's quite a distance from New York City, it's always been considered part of Upstate New York.
