Henry Charles Stackpole III (born May 7, 1935 – died May 29, 2020) was a very important leader in the United States Marine Corps. He reached the high rank of lieutenant general, which is like a top commander. He also went to Princeton University.
Henry Stackpole went to Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps in 1957. This was the start of his long and brave career.

Stackpole's Military Career
Henry Stackpole served in the United States Marine Corps for many years. He was part of many important missions and led many Marines.
Serving in the Vietnam War
In 1966, Stackpole was a company commander during the Vietnam War. He led a group of Marines from the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. While serving in South Vietnam, he was injured in the leg.
Leading Different Units
From 1970 to 1973, Stackpole worked at Stanford University. He helped train future Marine officers there. Later, as a colonel, he commanded the 7th Marine Regiment from 1981 to 1983.
He also led other important groups, like the 17th Marine Amphibious Unit. He even commanded a special team called Joint Task Force Sea Angel. This team helped people in Bangladesh after a big storm in 1991.
Becoming a Lieutenant General
On July 23, 1991, Henry Stackpole was promoted to lieutenant general. This is a very high rank in the military. He then worked at the main office for the Marine Corps in Washington, D.C.
From 1992 to 1994, he was in charge of all Marine forces in the Pacific Ocean. This included many different units and operations. He retired from the Marine Corps on September 1, 1994, after many years of service.
