Hannah England, born on March 6, 1987, is a British athlete. She was a fantastic middle-distance runner. Her main races were the 800 metres, 1500 metres, and the mile run.
Hannah won a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in the 1500 metres. She also finished fourth at the 2013 World Championships. She even competed in the Olympic Games in London. Hannah is one of only five British women to run the 800 metres in under two minutes. She retired from athletics on January 14, 2020.

Hannah's Early Life and Training
Hannah England was born in Oxford, England. She went to the Cherwell School in Summertown. Hannah started running with the Oxford City Athletic Club when she was young. Her first big win was in a cross country race as an Under 15 runner.
University and Early Success
In 2005, Hannah went to Birmingham University. She studied Biochemistry there. While at university, she won a national junior title in the 1500 metres. She also competed at the World Junior Championships.
As part of her studies, Hannah spent a year at Florida State University in the United States. She ran for their track team. She won the mile run indoors and the 1500 metres outdoors at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Becoming a Professional Athlete
After returning to the UK, Hannah finished third in the 1500 metres at the 2008 national championships. She was a reserve for the 2008 Summer Olympics but did not compete.
In 2009, Hannah competed in the 1500 metres at the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships. She set a new personal best time of 4:05.87 in the 1500 metres. She also set a personal best in the 800 metres with a time of 1:59.94. This was at the 2009 European Team Championships. She helped the Great Britain team finish third overall.
World Championship Challenges
Getting into the 2009 World Championships was tough. Four British athletes had fast enough times, but only three could go. Hannah was not chosen that year. However, she later qualified for the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Final. She finished second in the 1500 metres race. She was only beaten by the Olympic Champion, Nancy Jebet Lagat.
In 2010, Hannah finished second in the 1500 metres at the European Team Championships. She then won a national title in the 1500 metres. This helped her get selected for the European Championships in Barcelona.
Winning a World Medal
On September 1, 2011, Hannah competed in the 1500 metres final at the IAAF World Athletics Championship. She ran an amazing last 100 metres. She moved from seventh place to win the silver medal. Her time was 4:05.68.
Hannah's Family Life
Hannah is the daughter of Professor Philip England, who is a geophysicist. In 2012, she married Luke Gunn, who is also a Great Britain athlete.
