Career highlights

When Hannah was 16, she decided to try out for a TV show audition in Bristol. She wanted to gain some experience. These auditions were for a new teen drama series called Skins on the E4 channel.

Becoming Cassie in Skins

Hannah impressed the show's creators and was chosen to play Cassie Ainsworth. Cassie was a kind and creative, but sometimes troubled, teenager. Hannah appeared in the first two seasons of Skins, from 2007 to 2008. She left the show when the cast was changed for new characters. Hannah felt it was right to leave because she was no longer a teenager.

Stage and early film roles

In May 2008, after Skins, Hannah performed on stage for the first time. She played Mia in the play That Face at the Duke of York's Theatre in London. Critics praised her performance, calling it an important step in her career. That same year, she had a small part in the film In Bruges, but her scene was later removed.

In 2009, Hannah appeared in an ITV show based on Agatha Christie's book Why Didn't They Ask Evans?. She played Dorothy Savage. She also acted in the thriller film Womb (2010) and Chatroom (2010), which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

Joining Game of Thrones

On 8 August 2011, HBO announced that Hannah Murray would play Gilly in the second season of Game of Thrones. Gilly is a young woman who is protected by the character Samwell Tarly. Hannah became a regular cast member for the fourth season and continued playing Gilly until the show ended in 2019. In 2012, she also appeared in the action film The Numbers Station.
