Tegan Lauren-Hannah Murray (born on 1 July 1989) is an English actress. She is well-known for playing Cassie in the TV show Skins (from 2007 to 2008, and again in 2013). She also played Gilly in the popular HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones (from 2012 to 2019). For her role in Game of Thrones, she and her fellow cast members were nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Hannah Murray has also starred in several films. She was in the musical romance film God Help The Girl (2014), which earned her a special award at the Sundance Film Festival. She also won the Best Actress Award at the Tribeca Film Festival for her role in the drama film Bridgend (2015). Besides her screen work, she has performed in plays like That Face (2008) in London's West End and Martine (2014) in Off West End.

Early life and education
Hannah Murray was born in Bristol, England, on 1 July 1989. Her parents both work at Bristol University. Her father is a professor, and her mother is a research technician.
She studied English at Queens' College, Cambridge. Before that, she attended North Bristol Post 16 Centre. She was also a member of the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, where she gained acting experience.
Career highlights
When Hannah was 16, she decided to try out for a TV show audition in Bristol. She wanted to gain some experience. These auditions were for a new teen drama series called Skins on the E4 channel.
Becoming Cassie in Skins
Hannah impressed the show's creators and was chosen to play Cassie Ainsworth. Cassie was a kind and creative, but sometimes troubled, teenager. Hannah appeared in the first two seasons of Skins, from 2007 to 2008. She left the show when the cast was changed for new characters. Hannah felt it was right to leave because she was no longer a teenager.
Stage and early film roles
In May 2008, after Skins, Hannah performed on stage for the first time. She played Mia in the play That Face at the Duke of York's Theatre in London. Critics praised her performance, calling it an important step in her career. That same year, she had a small part in the film In Bruges, but her scene was later removed.
In 2009, Hannah appeared in an ITV show based on Agatha Christie's book Why Didn't They Ask Evans?. She played Dorothy Savage. She also acted in the thriller film Womb (2010) and Chatroom (2010), which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
Joining Game of Thrones
On 8 August 2011, HBO announced that Hannah Murray would play Gilly in the second season of Game of Thrones. Gilly is a young woman who is protected by the character Samwell Tarly. Hannah became a regular cast member for the fourth season and continued playing Gilly until the show ended in 2019. In 2012, she also appeared in the action film The Numbers Station.

Returning to Skins and other projects
In 2013, Hannah returned to Skins for two episodes in the final season. She played Cassie again, but this time as a more serious and independent adult. She also appeared in a music video for the song "Your Cover's Blown" by Belle & Sebastian.
In 2014, Hannah starred in God Help the Girl, a film about three musicians in Glasgow. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where Hannah and her co-stars won a special award for their great acting as a group. That same year, she played the main role in the play Martine. Her performance was highly praised by audiences and critics.
Hannah also starred in Lily & Kat (2015), an independent American film. It's about two best friends enjoying their last few days together in the city. The film was shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival and later at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Hannah won the Best Actress award.
In 2017, Hannah Murray appeared in Kathryn Bigelow's drama Detroit. This film was based on real events during the 1967 Detroit riot. The movie received very good reviews from critics.
