Tegan Lauren-Hannah Murray (born on July 1, 1989) is an English actress. She is well-known for her roles as Cassie in the TV show Skins (from 2007 to 2008, and again in 2013). She also played Gilly in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones (from 2012 to 2019).
For her work in Game of Thrones, she and her fellow cast members were nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards. Hannah has also starred in movies like God Help The Girl (2014). This film won her a special award at the Sundance Film Festival. She also appeared in Bridgend (2015), for which she won the Best Actress Award at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Between her TV and film roles, she performed on stage. She was in the play That Face in West End (2008) and in the play Martine (2014).

Early life and education
Hannah Murray was born in Bristol, England, on 1 July 1989. Her parents both work at Bristol University. Her father is a professor, and her mother is a research technician.
She studied English at Queens' College, Cambridge. Before that, she attended North Bristol Post 16 Centre. She was also a member of the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, where she gained acting experience.
Acting Career Highlights
At 16, Hannah Murray decided to try out for a TV show audition in Bristol. This audition was for the E4 teen drama series Skins. She impressed the show's creators and was chosen to play Cassie Ainsworth. Cassie was a kind and creative, but sometimes troubled, teenager.
Hannah appeared in the first two seasons of Skins, from 2007 to 2008. She left the show when the cast was changed to introduce new, younger characters. She believed it made sense to leave a teenage drama when she was no longer a teenager.
Stage and Early Film Roles
After Skins, in May 2008, Hannah made her first appearance on stage. She played Mia in the play That Face in West End. Her performance in this play was highly praised and was an important step in her career.
In the same year, she had a small part in the film In Bruges. However, her scene was later removed from the final movie.

In 2009, Hannah appeared in an ITV adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel Why Didn't They Ask Evans?. She played the character Dorothy Savage. She also acted in the thriller film Womb in 2010. Later that year, she starred in Chatroom, which was shown at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. In early 2010, she had a small role in the British TV thriller Above Suspicion: the Red Dahlia.
Joining Game of Thrones
On August 8, 2011, HBO announced that Hannah Murray would play Gilly in the second and third seasons of Game of Thrones. She became a main cast member for the fourth season. Her character, Gilly, is a young woman who is protected by the character Samwell Tarly.
In 2012, Hannah also appeared in the action thriller film The Numbers Station.
Return to Skins and Other Projects
In 2013, Hannah returned to Skins for two episodes in the seventh and final season. She played Cassie Ainsworth again, but this time as a more serious and independent adult. She also appeared in the music video for "Your Cover's Blown" by Belle & Sebastian.
In 2014, Hannah starred in God Help the Girl. This film was about three musicians in Glasgow. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014. Hannah and her co-stars won a special award for their "Delightful Ensemble Performance." Later that year, she continued her role as Gilly in Game of Thrones season 4. She also starred in the play Martine, playing the main character. Her performance was highly praised by audiences and critics. She was nominated for Best Female Performance at the Off West End Awards.
In 2015, Hannah starred in Lily & Kat, an independent American film. It was about two best friends trying to enjoy their last few days together in the city.
She also played Sara in the Danish film Bridgend in 2015. This film was based on events in Bridgend, South Wales. The movie premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and received good reviews. It later won three awards at the Tribeca Film Festival, including Best Actress for Hannah Murray.
In 2016, Hannah Murray played Sylvia Ageloff in the film The Chosen. Sylvia was a young American intellectual.
In 2017, Hannah starred in Kathryn Bigelow's drama Detroit. This film was based on historical events in Detroit in 1967. The movie received strong positive reviews from critics.
In 2018, she played a lead role in the film Charlie Says by Mary Harron. The movie premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival.
