Hanover's Past: A Look at History
In the past, Hanover was known by different names. From 1874 to 1881, it had a post office stop called "Anderson" along the B&O railroad tracks. Later, it was called "Hanoverville" until 1896.
Long, long ago, Hanover was on the "fall line." This is where the ocean met the land in prehistoric times. Native American tribes lived along the Patapsco River nearby. In 1929, archaeologists found old tools like arrowheads and spears. These were discovered on what was once the Disney farm. Today, this area has many modern buildings.
Modern Growth and Development
A big shopping center called Arundel Mills mall opened in November 2000. Since then, Hanover has grown a lot. Many new stores and homes have been built. These are mostly along Arundel Mills Boulevard. This road connects the B-W Parkway and Route 100 to the mall.
In 2010, voters approved a plan for a gaming and entertainment complex. This complex, with many slot machines, opened as Maryland Live! in June 2012. It is located at Arundel Mills Mall. The Maryland Department of Transportation also has its main office in Hanover. Since 2018, the company Amazon has run a large warehouse here.
