Harmarville is a small place in Pennsylvania, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's not an official city or town with its own government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Harmar Township in Allegheny County.

History of Harmarville

Harmarville was started in 1875. The area, Harmar Township, got its name from Harmar Denny. He was an important person who served in the United States Congress from 1829 to 1837. A Congressman helps make laws for the entire country. Harmar Denny's father, Ebenezer Denny, was also famous. He was an officer during the American Revolution, which was the war where America became an independent country.

When Harmarville was first settled, people who lived there were mostly farmers. Many immigrants also came to work as coal miners in the Harmar Mine.

Because of its location near the Allegheny River, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and other roads and railroads, Harmarville has always been important for transportation. This means it was a good place for moving goods and people around.

Early businesses in Harmarville made bricks. Later, other important places were built here, like the Gulf Research Center and the Harmarville Rehabilitation Center. Even today, brick making is still active in a nearby area called Indiana Township.

There are also some historic buildings in Harmarville. You can find the old company houses where the Harmar Mine workers lived. The Harmarville Presbyterian Church, built in 1804 on the Denny family farm, is another historic landmark.
