Amazing Meteorite Discovery
In March 2010, a very special and rare type of meteorite was found near Hart. It was unique because it was the only one of its kind found in the Western Hemisphere.
A worker found a single, large, brownish stone next to a road. It weighed 966 grams, which is about 2 pounds. The spot where it was found was only about 0.25 miles (0.4 km) from the town of Hart.
Later, a collector bought the meteorite. Scientists at the University of Washington studied the stone. They found it was a Carbonaceous Chondrite (CK3). This type of meteorite is very rare. The Hart meteorite is the largest of only 25 known examples in the world!
The discovery was officially announced in The Meteoritical Bulletin in 2013. The meteorite was given the official name "Hart."
