Hartley, Plymouth facts for kids
Hartley is a lovely suburb (which means it's a neighborhood just outside a main city) located in Plymouth, Devon, England. It's a great place to live with lots of interesting spots.
Where is Hartley?
Hartley is built on high ground, which means it has amazing views! You can look south towards the sparkling sea, east into an area called the South Hams, north over the wild Dartmoor national park, and west all the way to Cornwall.
The main road, Tavistock Road, cuts right through Hartley. This road makes it easy to get to other parts of Plymouth, like Mutley and the city centre. It also connects quickly to the A38 Plymouth Parkway, which is a big road that can take you to places like Exeter and beyond.
What Can You Find in Hartley?
Hartley is home to several important places. You'll find a large Morrisons supermarket, which is handy for shopping. If you like sports, the Plymouth Croquet Club is located next to Hartley Park, where people enjoy playing croquet.
There's also a small, independent school called King's School. It's a Christian school that helps students learn and grow.
Hartley's History and Homes
Hartley has some interesting history. There used to be a building called the Plymouth Workhouse, but it was taken down. Now, a modern, private community for retired people stands in its place.
You can also see some really big and old Victorian houses, especially along Tavistock Road. Many of the other homes in Hartley, particularly in an area known as the Venn Estate, were built just before World War II.
Local Fun
For a bit of fun and a place to grab a bite, the Golden Hind pub is a popular spot in the Hartley area. It's located near the Manadon Roundabout.
