Hasdrubal is the Latin way of writing the ancient Carthaginian name ʿAzrubaʿal. This name means "Help of Baal", who was an important god in ancient Carthage. This Hasdrubal was a king of ancient Carthage. He ruled from about 530 BC to 510 BC. He was part of the Magonid family, which was a powerful ruling family in Carthage.

Hasdrubal, Son of Hanno

This Hasdrubal was a Carthaginian commander. He was active around 250 BC during the First Punic War. This was the first big war between Carthage and Rome.

Hasdrubal the Fair

Hasdrubal the Fair lived from about 270 BC to 221 BC. He was the son-in-law of Hamilcar Barca, who was a very important Carthaginian general. Hasdrubal the Fair helped Carthage expand its control in Iberia (modern-day Spain and Portugal). He signed a treaty with Rome that set a border between their areas of influence.

Hasdrubal Barca

Hasdrubal Barca lived from 245 BC to 207 BC. He was the son of Hamilcar Barca and the younger brother of the famous general Hannibal Barca. Hasdrubal Barca was also a very skilled general. He fought against the Romans during the Second Punic War. He led Carthaginian armies in Iberia and later tried to join his brother Hannibal in Italy.

Hasdrubal Gisco

Hasdrubal Gisco was another important Carthaginian commander during the Second Punic War. He died in 202 BC. He fought against the Roman general Scipio Africanus in North Africa.

  • The philosopher Clitomachus (187/6–110/09 BC) was originally named Hasdrubal.
