Hatley is a small town located in Monroe County, Mississippi. According to the 2020 census, the town had a population of 495 people.
History of Hatley
When Hatley first became a town, it was built on land owned by the Tubb family. Because of this, it was originally called "Tubb's Crossroads."
Later, a group of people called Seventh-day Adventists moved into the area. They eventually took control of the town's government. They decided to change the town's name to "Hatley." This new name honored a minister from the church they had belonged to before moving to the area.
Geography of Hatley
Hatley is located in the northeastern part of Monroe County. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) east of the center of Amory.
The U.S. Census Bureau states that the town covers a total area of about 1.4 square miles (3.54 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Hatley sits on a raised area of land called a ridge. Water from this ridge flows north into Burketts Creek and Turner Branch. It also flows south into Weaver Creek. All of these creeks eventually join the Tombigbee River to the west.
