The Heart River is a short river in the United States. It is about 4.8-mile-long (7.7 km). This river is located entirely within Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It flows into the Snake River.
Exploring the Heart River's Journey
The Heart River starts high up in the Rocky Mountains. Its source is on the Continental Divide. This is a special line where water flows either to the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. The river begins a few miles southeast of Yellowstone Lake.
From Heart Lake to the Snake River
The small streams that form the Heart River first flow into Heart Lake. The main Heart River then flows out of the southeastern part of this lake. It gets more water from two streams coming from the northeast. After this, the river flows southwest into a short, steep canyon. It continues generally south for about 4 miles (6 km). Finally, it empties into the Snake River. This meeting point is near the edge of the Teton National Forest.
