A Look at Heartwell's Past
Heartwell was started around 1883. This happened when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built its tracks through the area. The village was named after James B. Heartwell. He was a person involved in politics and also worked at a bank.

In 2010, a census counted 71 people living in Heartwell. These people lived in 28 different homes, and 21 of these were families.
