History of Hectorville

Hectorville was first planned in 1855 by a person named P. B. Coglin. He owned the land and decided to create a new suburb there. The suburb was named after John Hector, who was an accountant at the Savings Bank of South Australia. He was born around 1788 and passed away on July 31, 1863.

Early Buildings in Hectorville

The very first house in Hectorville was built in 1849. It was built by Price Maurice right next to a place called Fourth Creek. A few years later, in 1855, this land was sold and officially became the suburb we know today as Hectorville.

Famous People from Hectorville

Some interesting people have lived in Hectorville. For example, the Australian singer and songwriter Greg Champion grew up here. He moved to Hectorville from a town called Benalla when he was younger.
