The Hemiancistrus meizospilos is a type of catfish that belongs to the family Loricariidae. It's sometimes called the southern orange-spotted pleco because of its unique spots. This fish was first found in the Chapecó River near Coronel Freitas in Santa Catarina, a state in Brazil.

Scientists Alexandre R. Cardoso and José Pezzi da Silva officially described Hemiancistrus meizospilos in 2004. They also described a similar fish called Hemiancistrus votouro at the same time. Both fish live in the Uruguay River basin.
The Hemiancistrus meizospilos is one of the smaller members of its fish family. It grows to about 14.9 centimeters (which is about 5.9 inches) long. What makes this fish stand out are its light-colored spots. You can see these spots on all of its fins and on the top part of its body. These spots help tell it apart from other fish in the Hemiancistrus group.
