Sir Henry Anderson (1582–1659) was an English politician and landowner. He was a Royalist, meaning he supported the King during the English Civil War. He served as Mayor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne once and as a MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne twice. He was also the High Sheriff of Northumberland.

Early Life and Education
Henry Anderson was born in 1582 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland. His father was also named Henry Anderson. His mother was Fortune Collingwood.
When he was 17, Henry went to Christ Church, Oxford, a college at the University of Oxford. He also studied law at Gray's Inn.
Political Career
Henry Anderson became a knight in 1608, which meant he was given the title "Sir." He served as the Mayor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne from 1613 to 1614.
In 1614, he was chosen to be a MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He was re-elected several times, serving in Parliament until 1626. He also held the important role of High Sheriff of Northumberland from 1615 to 1616.
Later, in the 1620s, Sir Henry sold his land in the Tyneside area. He then moved to an estate in Long Cowton, Yorkshire.
Standing Up to the King
In 1637, Sir Henry Anderson met with King Charles I. He tried to convince the King to stop collecting a tax called Ship Money. This tax was very unpopular. However, the King became angry and told Sir Henry off for being so bold.
English Civil War and Later Life
In 1640, Sir Henry was again elected as an MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He served in the Long Parliament. However, he was removed from his position in 1643 because he supported the King during the English Civil War.
After the war, in 1649, Sir Henry was put in prison. This was because he was sharing information that supported the King. He had many debts, which meant he owed a lot of money. Because of these debts, he stayed in prison for the rest of his life. He passed away in 1659.

Sir Henry Anderson was married three times. His first wife was Mary Remington. They had four sons and one daughter together.
His second wife was named Frances, who passed away in 1652. His third wife was Elizabeth Pinour.
