Henry Josey was born on September 25, 1991. He is an American former professional football player. He played as a running back, which is a player who carries the ball. He was last a member of the Ottawa Redblacks team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Before turning professional, he played college football at the University of Missouri.
Henry Josey's Early Life
Henry Josey grew up in Angleton, Texas. His father, Henry Neal, was also a talented athlete. In 1990, his dad set a national high school record for running the 100-meter dash.
High School Football Star
Josey went to Angleton High School. He started his football journey in 2007 as a linebacker, a defensive position. In his junior year, he switched to running back. This is when he really shined! He ran for 1,267 yards and scored 20 touchdowns. A touchdown is when a player carries the ball into the opponent's end zone, scoring points.
As a senior in 2009, he continued to play well. He gained 1,369 rushing yards and scored 15 touchdowns.
Track and Field Achievements
Besides football, Josey was also a great track & field athlete. In 2010, he finished second in the 100-meter race at a big meet. He ran his fastest time ever, 10.50 seconds. He also competed in the long jump, where he jumped 6.48 meters in 2009.
College Football Journey
Henry Josey played college football for the Missouri Tigers. This is a big step for young athletes who want to play professionally.
Freshman Year Success (2010)
In 2010, Josey was a freshman on the 2010 Missouri Tigers football team. In his very first game against McNeese State, he ran for 112 yards. He also scored three touchdowns, including an amazing 62-yard run! For the whole 2010 season, he ran for 437 yards and scored five touchdowns.
Sophomore Standout (2011)
As a sophomore in 2011, Josey became the main running back for the 2011 Missouri Tigers football team. He had an incredible game against Western Illinois. He gained 263 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns in just the first half! He didn't even need to play in the second half.
The next week, he rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown against the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. During the 2011 season, Josey ran for 1,168 yards. He averaged 8.1 yards every time he carried the ball. This was one of the best averages in the entire NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. He also averaged 116.8 rushing yards per game, which was 12th best in the country. Sadly, his great 2011 season ended early because of a serious knee injury.
Overcoming Injury (2012)
After his injury, Josey missed spring football practice in 2012. Even though he practiced with the team before the season, he wasn't able to play in any games that year.
Strong Comeback (2013)
Josey made a fantastic comeback in 2013! He played in all 14 games. He rushed for 1,166 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. By the end of his college career, he had run for 2,771 yards. He also held a Missouri record for averaging 7.0 yards per carry. After this successful season, he decided to skip his final year of college. He chose to enter the 2014 NFL draft to try and play professional football.

Before the NFL draft, players go through tests like the NFL Combine. This helps teams see how fast and strong they are.
Starting with the Eagles
Even though he wasn't chosen in the draft, Josey signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on May 10, 2014. This is called signing as an undrafted free agent. He played well during the preseason games, but the Eagles released him on August 29, 2014.
Moving to Other Teams
After leaving the Eagles, Josey joined the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad on August 31, 2014. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but don't usually play in games. On December 24, 2014, the Minnesota Vikings signed him from the Jaguars' practice squad.
Playing in Canada
On May 26, 2015, Josey signed with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). In the 2015 season, he carried the ball 16 times for 30 yards. He also caught four passes for 15 yards.
Josey later signed with the Ottawa Redblacks (CFL) on September 25, 2017. He was released by the team on April 12, 2018.
