Sir Henry St Clair was an important Scottish noble who lived in the late 1200s and early 1300s. He was the 7th Baron of Roslin and also the Lord of Catcune.

A Scottish Noble's Life
Henry St Clair was the son of William St Clair and Amicia de Roskelyn. He was a brave knight who fought for Scotland.
Captured at Dunbar
In 1296, Henry fought in the Battle of Dunbar. This was a big battle against King Edward I of England. Henry and his father, William, were captured during this fight. Henry became a prisoner in St Briavels Castle in England. Later, he was set free in a prisoner exchange. This means he was swapped for another important person, William FitzWarin.
Serving Scotland
Henry St Clair continued to serve Scotland. In 1305, he became the Sheriff of Lanark. This was an important job, like being a local leader and law enforcer.
Fighting at Bannockburn
Henry and his two sons, John and William, fought bravely at the Battle of Bannockburn. This famous battle happened on June 23-24, 1314. It was a major victory for Scotland against England. King Robert I of Scotland was very pleased with Henry's courage. He rewarded Henry with land, including Pentland and Morton.
Signing the Declaration of Arbroath
In 1320, Henry St Clair was one of the Scottish nobles who signed the Declaration of Arbroath. This was a very important letter sent to the Pope. It declared that Scotland was an independent nation and would never be ruled by England. It is a famous document in Scottish history. Henry St Clair passed away around the year 1335.
Henry's Family
Henry St Clair married Alice de Fenton. She was the daughter of William de Fenton and Cecilia Bisset. Henry and Alice had two sons:
- William (who died in 1330). William had a son named William St Clair, 8th Baron of Roslin. This grandson later married Isabella de Strathearn.
- John (who also died in 1330).
