Herbert Coleman (born September 4, 1971) is a former American professional football player. He played as a defensive lineman, which is a player who tries to stop the other team from running or passing the ball.
Herb Coleman was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1995 National Football League (NFL) draft. He played college football at Trinity International University. Throughout his career, Coleman also played for several other teams. These included the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and Denver Broncos in the NFL. He also played for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe. In the Arena Football League (AFL), he was part of the Milwaukee Mustangs, Orlando Predators, and Colorado Crush. He even played in Canada for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Early Life and High School Years
Herb Coleman grew up in Country Club Hills, Illinois. He went to Hillcrest High School there.
College Football Journey
Coleman started his college football career playing for the Trinity International Trojans from 1989 to 1990. To improve his grades, he later transferred to South Suburban College. During this time, he also worked at a post office. After improving his grades, he returned to Trinity International University. He finished his college education and continued to play football for the Trojans.
Professional Football Career
Herb Coleman began his professional career when the San Francisco 49ers picked him in the 1995 NFL draft. He was the 238th player chosen overall. He signed with the 49ers in June 1995.
Moving Between Teams
Coleman was released by the 49ers in August 1995 but later joined their practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was released again by the 49ers in August 1996.
Later in August 1996, he joined the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs. In December 1996, he moved to the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints. He then signed with the San Francisco 49ers again in January 1997.
Playing in Different Leagues
In 1997, Coleman played for the Rhein Fire in the World League of American Football, which was later known as NFL Europe. After that season, he was released by the 49ers in August 1997.
In January 1998, Coleman joined the Milwaukee Mustangs in the Arena Football League (AFL). The AFL is a league where football is played indoors on a smaller field. He then joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 1998. He played in two games for them during the 1998 season.
Later Career Moves
In March 1999, Coleman signed with the Denver Broncos of the NFL. He was released by the Broncos in August 1999.
His rights in the AFL were traded between teams. The Milwaukee Mustangs traded his rights to the Orlando Predators in April 1999. Later, in November 1999, the Predators traded Coleman back to the Milwaukee Mustangs. He played for the Mustangs during the 2000 AFL season.
In November 2002, Herb Coleman signed with the Colorado Crush in the AFL. He played for them during the 2003 season. He was later released by the Crush in November 2004.
