Hermetschwil-Staffeln used to be a small town, or "municipality," in Switzerland. It was located in the Aargau canton, which is like a state. In 2014, Hermetschwil-Staffeln joined with the nearby town of Bremgarten. So now, it's part of Bremgarten.

A Look Back: Hermetschwil-Staffeln's History
Hermetschwil-Staffeln was first mentioned in old records in 1064. Back then, it was called Hermenswil. The village grew up around a place called Hermetschwil Convent.
For a long time, the area was controlled by the Austrian Habsburg family. Later, a powerful monastery called Muri Abbey owned many things in Hermetschwil. This included farms, a local inn, the mill, and even the ferry.
The Convent church always served as the main church for the local people. In 1878, the Convent closed down. Its farm then became an orphanage called St. Benedict.
For most of its history, Hermetschwil-Staffeln was a peaceful farming village. But in the 1960s, it started to grow. It became part of the larger Zurich area. Many new homes were built in the 1980s for the increasing number of people.

Important Places: Heritage Sites
