Hider in the House was a fun British TV game show made for kids. It was hosted by JK and Joel, whose real names are Jason King and Joel Ross. The show was all about hiding a famous person in a family's home without one of the parents finding out!

What is Hider in the House?

The main idea of "Hider in the House" was super exciting! Three children (or more if they invited friends or family) and one parent had to secretly hide a celebrity in their own house. The other parent in the family thought they were taking part in a completely different TV show.

The children had to complete a series of challenges. If they succeeded, they would win cool prizes. The biggest challenge was making sure the unaware parent never figured out what was really happening! Sometimes the tasks were very messy. Other times, they involved getting the unaware parent to do funny or strange things.

The show's idea was created by a company called Eyeworks UK. It was so good that it won a special award. In 2008, it won the Best Entertainment prize at the Rose d'Or ceremony.

When a Hider Was Found Early

In one episode from the second series, something unusual happened. The celebrity, David Grant, was discovered very early on the first day. This was not supposed to happen!

Because of this unexpected event, the presenters, JK and Joel, talked about what to do. They decided to give the children a choice. The kids could keep playing the game. However, if they failed any future challenges, they would lose all the prizes they had already won. For this special episode, unsuspecting friends or other family members took the place of the unaware parent.

Forfeits for the Hider

If the celebrity "hider" failed a challenge, they had to do a "forfeit." This was a funny or gross task that helped the children win back their prizes.

In Series One, a common forfeit was called 'Suck the Sock'. The hider had to suck a sock filled with a smoothie. Sometimes, the sock was changed to something special related to that celebrity. For example, for one celebrity, it became 'Lick the sock'.

In Series Two, a new forfeit appeared: 'Lick the Tache'. Here, the celebrity had to lick a horrible substance that looked like a moustache off their face. For instance, Lil' Chris had to lick a tartar sauce moustache off his face in one episode. 'Suck the Sock' was still used sometimes too. There was only one forfeit per episode, and it happened after the first failed challenge.

The smoothies in the sock weren't always typical fruit ones. Sometimes they were made of gravy, or even crushed lollipops mixed with orange juice and ginger! For Dani Harmer, her forfeit was called 'Suck Nan's Tights'.
