High Pines History: A Look at Recent Changes
Even though High Pines is a quiet community, it has been part of some important discussions about its future. These talks involved its neighbors and the county government.
The Idea of Joining a City
In 2018, the nearby city of Coral Gables suggested a big change. They proposed to "annex" High Pines and Ponce-Davis. To "annex" means to officially add a smaller area to a larger city. If this had happened, High Pines would have become part of Coral Gables.
Why the Proposal Didn't Happen
The idea of annexation was discussed by Miami-Dade County. In 2019, the county decided not to approve the proposal. They also rejected a similar plan to annex another community called Little Gables. So, High Pines remains an unincorporated community today.
