City ward is a special area, or "ward," in the City of Sheffield, England. It includes exciting places like Highfield, Kelham Island, and the main city centre.
This ward is one of 28 similar areas in Sheffield where people vote for their local representatives. It covers the very heart of the city. City ward was created in 2015. Before that, it was part of an older area called Central ward, which was once the biggest ward in the whole United Kingdom with over 36,000 people! City ward is also part of the Sheffield Central voting area for the national Parliament.

Exploring City Ward's Districts
City ward is made up of a few different neighbourhoods, each with its own unique feel and history. Let's take a closer look at them.
Sheffield City Centre
The Sheffield City Centre, often just called "town," is the busy heart of Sheffield. It's roughly within a 1.2-kilometre (0.75 mi) circle around Sheffield Cathedral. A special road, the Inner Ring Road, goes all the way around it, helping traffic flow smoothly. This road was finished in 2008.
The city centre has many important and beautiful buildings. These include the historic Sheffield Town Hall, the grand Sheffield City Hall, and the amazing Sheffield Winter Garden, which is like a giant greenhouse filled with plants. Parts of the city centre are known as "quarters," like the Devonshire Quarter and the Cultural Industries Quarter, each with its own special shops, cafes, and creative spaces.
Highfield Neighbourhood
Highfield is an area just south of the city centre. It sits between Sharrow to the west and Queens Road to the east. One of the most famous spots in Highfield is Bramall Lane football stadium. This is the home ground for Sheffield United F.C., a well-known football team.
Kelham Island Area
Kelham Island is one of Sheffield's special "quarters." It used to be a very busy industrial area, full of factories and workshops. The "island" part of its name comes from a man-made channel called a "goit" or mill race. This channel was built to bring water from the River Don to power water wheels for the old industries.
Even though it's called an island, the Kelham Island Quarter is bigger than just the physical island. It's shaped a bit like a diamond. Today, you can see lots of new buildings and projects here. Old industrial buildings are being turned into homes, shops, and places to hang out, mixing new life with its rich history.
What to See in Kelham Island
Kelham Island is home to the Kelham Island Museum, where you can learn all about Sheffield's industrial past, including seeing the huge River Don Engine. It also has several popular pubs, like the Kelham Island Tavern, which has won awards for its great beer. You can also find the Kelham Island Brewery here, which makes its own famous beers like Pale Rider. For many years, one of Sheffield's last traditional hand-made scissor makers, Ernest Wright and Son Limited, was located here before moving closer to the city centre in 2011.
