About Highland
Highland's Past
Highland likely got its name because it's located on high ground. It's like being on a small hill! A post office was opened here in 1838. It helped people send and receive mail for many years, until 1868.
Later, when a railroad was built nearby, businesses started moving to a different town called Hillsdale. This meant that Highland became less busy and started to decline.
Where is Highland?
Highland is located at coordinates 39°47′40″N 87°23′44″W / 39.79444°N 87.39556°W. It's about one mile west of the Wabash River. This river is a big part of Indiana's geography.
