A Look at Higuillar's Past

Long ago, after a conflict called the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States in 1898. This made Puerto Rico a special territory of the U.S.

A year later, in 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. They found that only 820 people lived in Higuillar at that time. Over the years, many more people moved to Higuillar, and it grew a lot!
