A Look at Hills District History
Suburban development in the Hills District started in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
When Did Development Begin?
- In Arana Hills, new homes began to appear in 1957.
- In Everton Hills, development started in 1959.
- In Ferny Hills, building began in 1960.
How Did the Area Grow?
These new developments were like extensions of older suburbs. These older suburbs, such as Keperra, Everton Park, and Ferny Grove, are located south of Kedron Brook Creek and are part of the City of Brisbane. Later, in the 1980s, urban development spread into the southern part of Bunya. Because of this, the term "Hills District" might also include parts of Bunya today.
