Where is Everton Hills?
Everton Hills is in the north-west part of the Brisbane area. It stretches out from Everton Park. A park called 'Boundary Park' helps mark where one suburb ends and the other begins.
The southern edge of Everton Hills follows the Kedron Brook. This natural boundary separates it from Mitchelton. The suburb is also close to the beautiful Bunyaville Forest Reserve. Many people think of it as part of the "Hills District."
A Look Back: History of Everton Hills
The land where Everton Hills now stands has a long history. It is part of the traditional country of the Yugarabul Indigenous people.
The name Everton Hills comes from its neighbour, Everton Park. This name was inspired by a settler named Ambrose McDowall. He named his home after Everton, a suburb in Liverpool, England.
In the 1890s, there was a town called Bunyaville in this area. It was north of South Pine Road. Before 1891, it was known as Kedron. This name came from the Kedron Brook that flows through the area.
A church called Bunyaville Baptist Church opened here in 1932. It was built very quickly, in just one day! Later, it became known as the Everton Hills Baptist Church. The old church building was later moved to the Hills Church on Queens Road.
Prince of Peace Lutheran College, a school, opened its doors in 1984. The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church opened next to the school in 1986.
Until 2008, Everton Hills was part of the Pine Rivers Shire. Then, it became part of the larger City of Moreton Bay.
