About Hincks
Hincks is not a town with many people. It's called a 'locality'. This means it's a specific area or district. The name and its borders were officially set in 1998.
Why the Name?
Hincks got its name from two things. One is the Hundred of Hincks. A 'Hundred' is an old way to divide land. The other is the Hincks Conservation Park. This park covered the whole area of Hincks in 1998.
Since 2004, the entire area of Hincks has been part of the Hincks Wilderness Protection Area. This is a special kind of protected area. It helps keep the natural environment safe.
Who Manages Hincks?
Hincks is part of a few different government areas. These areas help manage the land and its people.
- Federal Government: Hincks is in the federal Division of Grey. This means people living here vote for a representative in the national parliament.
- State Government: For state matters, Hincks is in the electoral district of Flinders. This is for voting in the South Australian state parliament.
- Local Government: The area is managed by two local councils. These are the District Council of Cleve and the District Council of Tumby Bay. They handle local services like roads and rubbish collection.
