Hiouchi (which the Tolowa people call Xaa-yuu-chit) is a small community in Del Norte County, California. It is located right by the Smith River. Hiouchi is about 7.5 miles (12.1 km) east-northeast of Crescent City. It sits at an elevation of 171 feet (52 m) above sea level. In 2020, the population of Hiouchi was 314 people, which is a small increase from 301 people in 2010.

According to the 2010 United States Census, 301 people lived in Hiouchi. Most of the people living there were White (88.7%). There were also Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander residents. About 3.7% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
All 301 people lived in homes, not in group housing. There were 143 households in total. Some households had children under 18 living with them. Many were married couples, while others were single-parent homes or individuals living alone. The average household had about two people.

It's a fun fact that parts of the movie Return of the Jedi, especially the scenes with the Ewoks, were filmed very close to Hiouchi. They used Jedidiah Smith State Park, which is just west of the community.
