Hiram is a small, unincorporated community in eastern Wayne County, Missouri, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Hiram is found along Missouri Route C, situated between the communities of Clubb and Lowndes. It's also near McCabe Creek and Bear Creek.
History of Hiram
Hiram got its name from a man named Hiram Holliday. He was a businessman who worked in the lumber industry nearby in Greenville.
A post office was opened in Hiram in the year 1900. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1994.
Hiram was an important stop on a special railroad line. This line was 17 miles long and was built by Hiram Holliday. It ran from Greenville, which is the county seat, to Cascade. The main purpose of this railroad, which operated between 1880 and 1910, was to transport large amounts of pine timber from the forests of Wayne County.
