Hoadley is a small community known as a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada. It is located within Ponoka County. You can find Hoadley on Highway 20, about 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of the city of Wetaskiwin.
The Story of Hoadley
The community of Hoadley was named a long time ago. It was a special stop for trains on the Lacombe and Blindman Valley Electric Railway. This railway was built between 1917 and 1919. Hoadley was a "watering stop," which means trains would stop there to refill their water tanks.
The name Hoadley comes from a person named George Hoadley. He was an important politician in Alberta. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Alberta from 1909 to 1930. An MLA is someone elected to represent people in the provincial government.
