History of Holcomb
Holcomb was started in 1901. It was built on land that used to belong to a Choctaw Indian Chief named Isaac Perry.
The community is located along the path of the old Illinois Central Railroad. This railroad was very important for moving goods and people in the past.
Long ago, Holcomb had many different businesses. There was a factory that made staves (pieces of wood used to make barrels). There was also a Munger System Gin, which helped separate cotton fibers from their seeds. An axe handle factory, a church, a saw mill, and several general stores were also part of the community. The Bank of Holcomb opened its doors in 1905.
