Holloway Terrace is a small community in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. It is not an official city or town, but rather an unincorporated community. You can find Holloway Terrace just outside the city of Wilmington. It is located near Delaware Route 9 and Interstate 295, which are important roads. It's also southwest of the Port of Wilmington.

History of Holloway Terrace

Holloway Terrace was one of the first neighborhoods built outside of Wilmington. It was designed to be a new place for people to live.

Early Days and Growth

People started buying land here in May 1916. On the very first day, 300 pieces of land were sold! Buyers even got a subscription to a newspaper called the Wilmington Evening Journal. Holloway Terrace was also close to the New Castle Trolley Line, which was like an old-fashioned streetcar.

Community Spirit

To help their community, people living there created the Holloway Terrace Civic Association and a Volunteer Fire Company in 1921. These groups worked to represent the community and keep everyone safe.

Population Changes

By 1966, about 1,100 people lived in Holloway Terrace. The area kept growing over the years. By the 1970s, most people in Delaware lived in the neighborhoods around Wilmington. This included early suburbs like Holloway Terrace, Claymont, and Holly Oak.
