Early Life and Education
Homayoun Ershadi was born in Isfahan, Iran. When he was young, he moved to Italy to study architecture. He attended the Ca' Foscari University of Venice and finished his studies in 1970.
After graduating, he worked as an architect in Iran. In 1979, he moved to Canada with his wife. They settled in Vancouver, where he continued his work as an architect. Ershadi returned to Iran in 1990.
How Homayoun Ershadi Started Acting
After returning to Iran, Homayoun Ershadi lived in Tehran. His acting career began in a very unusual way! The famous director Abbas Kiarostami discovered him by chance. Ershadi was sitting in his car in traffic when Kiarostami saw him.
Kiarostami approached him and asked him to play the main character in his film, Taste of Cherry. This was Ershadi's first movie role, and it made him well-known.

In 2007, Homayoun Ershadi was cast in The Kite Runner. This movie tells the story of two young boys growing up in Afghanistan. He played an important role in this film.
He also appeared in Agora in 2009, a European film. In 2012, he acted in the Hollywood movie Zero Dark Thirty.
