Homayoun Ershadi (born March 26, 1947 – died November 11, 2025) was a talented actor from Iran. He became famous for his very first movie role in Taste of Cherry in 1997. He also acted in many other films, both in Iran and internationally. You might know him from big Hollywood movies like The Kite Runner and Zero Dark Thirty, or European films such as Agora.

Growing Up and Learning
Homayoun Ershadi was born in a city called Isfahan in Iran on March 26, 1947. When he was older, he moved to Italy to study architecture at a university in Venice. He finished his studies in 1970.
After university, he worked as an architect in Iran. Later, in 1979, he moved to Canada and lived in Vancouver. He continued his work as an architect there. In 1990, Mr. Ershadi returned to Iran.
His Acting Journey
After returning to Iran, Homayoun Ershadi lived in Tehran. A famous director named Abbas Kiarostami discovered him by chance. Mr. Kiarostami saw him sitting in his car in traffic. He then asked Mr. Ershadi to star in his movie, Taste of Cherry. This was his very first acting role!
Later, in 2007, he acted in the movie The Kite Runner. This film tells the story of two young boys growing up in Afghanistan. He also appeared in other international films like Agora and Zero Dark Thirty.
Family and Later Years
Homayoun Ershadi had two children who live in Vancouver, Canada. He often visited them and his grandchildren there. Sadly, Homayoun Ershadi passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 78. He had been battling cancer.
Awards and Recognition
Homayoun Ershadi received an award for his acting! In 2017, he won a Sepanta Award for "Best Actor for Short Film." This was for his role in the movie Blue Lantern. He received this award at the 10th Annual Iranian Film Festival in San Francisco, California.
