Professional Football Career

Joining the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys chose Honor Jackson in the ninth round of the 1971 NFL draft. The Cowboys were a very strong team at that time. They had just played in Super Bowl V and would soon win Super Bowl VI. The team decided to change Honor's position to defensive back. This was a new position for him, but it gave him a better chance to join the team.

During the 1971 offseason, the Cowboys made a trade. Honor Jackson was part of this trade with the New England Patriots. Later, the NFL commissioner changed part of the trade. The Patriots kept Honor Jackson and another player. In return, the Cowboys received draft picks for the 1972 NFL draft.

Playing for the New England Patriots

When Honor joined the New England Patriots, he first tried playing wide receiver. However, he soon moved to safety.

In the 1972 season, he became the starting strong safety. He led his team with four interceptions that year. One of his best games was against the Miami Dolphins. He made two interceptions in that game. In 1973, he played in nine games, mostly as a backup player. He left the team in November of that year.

Time with the New York Giants

Honor Jackson then signed with the New York Giants in 1973 as a free agent. He played for them until 1974. During the 1974 season, he got a nerve injury in his right leg. This injury made it hard for him to play. He decided to retire from professional football at 27 years old.

Life After Football

After his football career, Honor Jackson worked as a manager for a company called Longs Drugs. He also became the president of the Northern California chapter of the NFL Alumni Association.
