Playing in the NFL: Honor Jackson's Professional Career

Starting with the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys picked Honor Jackson in the 1971 NFL draft. He was the 233rd player chosen overall. The Cowboys were a very strong team at the time. They had just played in the Super Bowl and would soon win another.

The team decided to move Jackson to defensive back. He had never played this position before. This change was to give him a better chance to join the team.

During the 1971 offseason, the Cowboys made a trade. Honor Jackson was part of this trade. He moved to the New England Patriots.

Time with the New England Patriots

With the Patriots, Jackson first tried playing wide receiver. But then he moved to safety. This was his main position.

In the 1972 season, he became a starting strong safety. He led his team in interceptions with four. His best game was against the Miami Dolphins on December 3. He caught two interceptions in that game. The Dolphins were having a perfect season that year.

In 1973, he played in nine games. He was mostly a backup player. He left the team in November of that year.

Joining the New York Giants

Honor Jackson then signed with the New York Giants in 1973. He joined them as a free agent. He played for the Giants until 1974.

Later in 1974, he got a nerve injury in his right leg. This injury was serious. He could not fully recover from it. Because of this, he decided to stop playing professional football. He was 27 years old when he retired.

Life After Football

After his football career, Honor Jackson worked as a manager. He worked for a company called Longs Drugs. He also became the president of a group. This group was the Northern California chapter of the NFL Alumni Association.
