Horrible Geography is a super fun series of non-fiction books for kids. These books are written by Anita Ganeri and illustrated by Mike Phillips. They are published in the UK by Scholastic.
This series is a spin-off from the popular Horrible Histories books. Its main goal is to make geography exciting and interesting for young readers. It shows that learning about our planet can be really cool!

Why Horrible Geography is Awesome
The Horrible Geography books are very popular. By August 2011, almost 2 million copies had been sold! These books have also been translated into more than 20 different languages. That means kids all over the world can enjoy them.
Awards for Great Geography Books
The series has won several important awards. In 1999, the books Odious Oceans, Violent Volcanoes, and Stormy Weather won the Geographical Association Silver Award. This was a big achievement for the series.
Later, in 2008, the book Horrible Geography of the World received a Highly Commended Award. This award was given by the Geographical Association for its great help in teaching geography in schools.
Another book, Horrible Geography Handbook: Planet in Peril, won the 2009 Blue Peter Book Award. It was named the Best Book with Facts, which shows how much kids love learning from it.
Honoring the Author
In 2010, Anita Ganeri, the author, received a special medal. The Royal Scottish Geographical Society gave her the Joy Tivy Education Medal. This award recognized her amazing work in teaching and inspiring people about geography.
