About the Horseshoe Falls
The Horseshoe Falls gets its name because it curves like a horseshoe. It's a popular spot for visitors to Mount Field National Park. The park is famous for its stunning natural beauty.
How the Falls Were Formed
The waterfall flows over different kinds of rock layers. The water drops over flat, strong rock benches. These benches are made of a type of rock called siltstone. The parts of the falls that stand up tall are made of strong sandstone. Over many years, the water has slowly carved out these amazing shapes.
Where to Find the Falls
The Horseshoe Falls are easy to visit. They are located inside Mount Field National Park. This park is in Tasmania, Australia.
Getting There
The falls are about 70 kilometres (43 mi) northwest of Hobart. Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania. You can get there by taking the Brooker Highway towards New Norfolk. The Horseshoe Falls are also very close to another famous waterfall. They are only about 100 metres (330 ft) upstream from Russell Falls. Many tourists enjoy visiting both waterfalls on the same trip.
