Howard Wilson's Football Journey

Howard Wilson was a talented football player who hoped to have a long career in the NFL. His journey included being drafted by a professional team and working hard to overcome challenges.

Joining the Cleveland Browns

The NFL Draft is where professional football teams choose new players from college. In 2017, Howard Wilson was picked by the Cleveland Browns. He was the 126th player chosen overall, in the fourth round of the draft.

After being drafted, Howard signed his first professional contract with the Browns. This is called a "rookie contract." It was a four-year agreement, meaning he would play for the team for four seasons.

Facing Challenges: Injuries

Soon after signing his contract, Howard faced a big challenge. In May 2017, during a practice camp for new players, he broke his kneecap. This injury is called a "fractured patella." It required surgery to fix.

Because of this injury, Howard could not play during the entire 2017 season. He was placed on the "physically unable to perform" (PUP) list. This list is for players who are injured and cannot play or practice.

In June 2018, Howard needed another surgery on his knee. This was to repair a tendon that was also hurt when he broke his kneecap. Sadly, this meant he would miss his second season in a row. He was placed on "injured reserve," which is another list for players who are too hurt to play for a long time.

Trying to Get Back on the Field

Howard Wilson was released by the Browns in April 2019. This meant he was no longer part of the team. He had not been able to play in any games for them because of his injuries.

After not playing in the 2019 NFL season, Howard continued to try and get back into professional football. In August 2020, he had a "tryout" with the Chicago Bears. A tryout is when a team invites a player to practice with them to see if they want to sign them.

In 2022, Howard was chosen by the Houston Gamblers in the 2022 USFL Draft. The USFL is another professional football league. However, he was released by the Gamblers in April 2022, before their season began.
