Howells: A Look at Its Past
Howells was officially started in 1886. This happened when the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad built its tracks to this spot. The village was named after James Smith Howell, who lived in the area. Interestingly, the local post office, also opened in 1886, was spelled "Howell" without the "S" until 1937.
