Hsu Hsin-ying (born April 23, 1972) is a politician from Taiwan. She has been a member of the Legislative Yuan, which is like Taiwan's parliament.
Hsu Hsin-ying has been part of different political groups. She started as an independent, meaning she didn't belong to a party. Later, she joined the Kuomintang (KMT) party. She also started her own party called the Minkuotang (MKT). In 2019, the MKT joined another group called the Congress Party Alliance. Hsu Hsin-ying rejoined the Kuomintang in 2022. She was reelected to the Legislative Yuan in 2024.

About Hsu Hsin-ying's Early Life and Education
Hsu Hsin-ying comes from the Hakka people. This is a group of people in Taiwan with a unique culture.
She went to Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls High School. There, she enjoyed playing sports like basketball and softball. She also took part in athletics.
Her College Studies and First Jobs
Hsu Hsin-ying studied engineering at National Cheng Kung University. After that, she earned her master's and doctorate degrees. She got these advanced degrees from National Chiao Tung University.
Her first job was as a researcher. She worked for the Ministry of the Interior. This is a government department. Later, she worked for a private company. It was called Da Shi Dai Surveying and Construction Consulting Company. She also taught at Minghsin University of Science and Technology.
Hsu Hsin-ying's Political Journey
Starting in Politics
Hsu Hsin-ying first tried to get elected in 2005. She ran for a spot on the Hsinchu County Council. This is a local government group. She did not win that election. In 2008, she tried to become a member of the Legislative Yuan. She was not successful that time either.
In 2009, she joined the Kuomintang (KMT) party. After joining, she won a seat on the Hsinchu County Council. Then, in 2012, she won a seat in the Legislative Yuan. She was a member of the Kuomintang. In that election, she received many votes. She got 171,466 votes, which was the most for any candidate that year.
In 2015, Hsu Hsin-ying left the Kuomintang. She then started her own political party. It was called the Minkuotang (MKT). She became the first leader of this new party.
Running in the 2016 Elections
Hsu Hsin-ying planned to run for reelection in Hsinchu County in 2016. But then, something big happened. James Soong, the leader of the People First Party, chose her. He picked her to be his running mate for president. This meant she would be the vice presidential candidate.
They ran together in the 2016 Taiwanese presidential election. Their team finished third in the election. Also, the Minkuotang party lost its only seat in the Legislative Yuan.
Later Political Roles
In 2018, Hsu Hsin-ying ran for a top local leadership role. This was for the Hsinchu County magistracy. She came in second place out of four candidates. She received about 32% of the votes.
After this election, she stepped down as the leader of the Minkuotang. This happened in November 2018. In January 2019, her party joined with another group. It became part of the Congress Party Alliance.
Hsu Hsin-ying rejoined the Kuomintang party in May 2022. In March 2023, she started her campaign for the Legislative Yuan again. She was successfully reelected in the January 2024 Taiwanese legislative election.
