Hunter Creek is a cool stream, which is like a small river, located in Douglas County, Missouri. It flows into a bigger stream called Bryant Creek, making it a 'tributary'. This means Hunter Creek adds its water to Bryant Creek.

Where Does Hunter Creek Start and Flow?

Hunter Creek begins its journey north of a town called Ava. It starts near a ridge and Missouri Route 76. The water then flows towards the southeast.

As it travels, Hunter Creek gets more water from other smaller streams. These are called tributaries too!

  • Turkey Creek joins it from the north.
  • Wildcat Creek adds water from the southwest.
  • It also gets fresh, clear spring water from a special place called Crystal Springs. This is where a rainbow trout hatchery is located.

The stream continues flowing east. It picks up even more water from Whites Creek and Dicky Creek. Finally, Hunter Creek meets and joins Bryant Creek at a place called Vera Cruz. A community named Larissa used to be located along Hunter Creek, close to Crystal Springs.

Why is it Called Hunter Creek?

The name "Hunter Creek" comes from the early settlers and pioneers who lived in the area. They often hunted for food and animals near this stream. So, they named it Hunter Creek because of all the hunting activity that happened there long ago.
