Huntington is a community in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It's not a city, but a special area called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a place the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own city government.

In 2010, about 11,267 people lived here. Huntington is right next to the city of Alexandria. It is also part of the larger Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C., and its surrounding towns.

A big part of Huntington is a neighborhood built in the late 1940s. It has many homes called duplexes, which are buildings with two separate living spaces.

In 2006, a part of Huntington experienced floods. This happened because of heavy rain that made Cameron Run overflow its banks. Even with this, many people like to live in Huntington. It is popular with people buying their first home. This is mostly because it is very close to the Huntington Metro station. This station is the last stop on the Yellow Line of the Metrorail system.

There are also many tall apartment and condo buildings in Huntington. These are found near U.S. Route 1, where a lot of people live. The area uses the ZIP code 22303. It has an Alexandria mailing address, even though it is outside the city limits of Alexandria.

Geography of Huntington

Huntington is located in the southeastern part of Fairfax County. It is at coordinates 38°47′33″N 77°4′20″W.

To the north, Huntington borders the city of Alexandria. To the southeast, it is next to Belle Haven. To the west, it borders Rose Hill. U.S. Route 1 forms the border between Huntington and Belle Haven. The border with Rose Hill follows streets like Poag Street and Telegraph Road.

Downtown Alexandria, also known as Old Town, is about 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast. Downtown Washington, D.C. is about 10 miles (16 km) north of Huntington.

The United States Census Bureau says that Huntington has a total area of 2.9 square kilometers (1.1 square miles). Most of this area, 2.8 square kilometers (1.1 square miles), is land. A small part, 0.1 square kilometers (0.04 square miles), is water.
