Hunts Mesa is a giant rock formation found in Monument Valley. This amazing place is located near the border between Utah and Arizona in the United States. It's also west of the border between Navajo County and Apache County in Arizona.

Hunts Mesa is one of two special places inside the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Tourists love to visit it for incredible views of the famous sandstone formations from far away. The other popular spot is called Mystery Valley. To explore either of these areas, you need a special guide from the Navajo Nation.

What is Hunts Mesa?

Hunts Mesa is a huge, flat-topped hill with steep sides. It marks the southeastern edge of Monument Valley. It also forms the northern edge of a smaller area called Little Capitan Valley. This impressive rock formation stands tall at about 6,370 feet (1,942 meters) above sea level.

Where is Hunts Mesa Located?

Getting to Hunts Mesa is a bit different from entering the main Monument Valley park. You don't go through the usual entrance. Instead, you access it through the sand dunes located northeast of the town of Kayenta, Arizona. This unique entry adds to the adventure of visiting Hunts Mesa.

A Look Back: The 1984 Accident

On October 16, 1984, a United States Air Force B-52G bomber had an accident on Hunts Mesa. It was a sad event involving the large aircraft.
